Why Neurosomatic Therapy
Melinda first learned about Neurosomatic Therapy when she and her husband were seeking help for their then 4-year-old daughter. In 1997, Melinda and Eddy eagerly awaited the birth of their daughter, Zoe. It was a wonderful pregnancy, and they anticipated a smooth, easy delivery. Things quickly took a turn when their daughter nearly died in the delivery room: Zoe finally emerged into the world—purple, silent, and unresponsive. What followed was a lengthy stint in the NICU, years of monitoring her for developmental milestones that weren’t being met, and visits to multiple specialists.
It was through a chance meeting with Randy Clark, one of the founders of NST, that they were introduced to Neurosomatic Therapy and found themselves in front of Paul St. John. Zoe spoke her first complete sentence just a few days after that first treatment. For the first time, they had hope…and solutions to help their daughter. From that point forward, the traditional therapies the family tried worked better, and Zoe began to thrive.
Melinda obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of South Florida. She earned Florida Educator Certification in English Grades 6-12 and Elementary Education Grades K-6. Melinda worked as a classroom teacher, primarily working with middle school students. Zoe’s remarkable progress with NST prompted Melinda to explore NST as a means of treating her own debilitating migraines. After successfully resolving her migraines after only a few sessions, her professional goals shifted to helping others address their own chronic pain.
She embarked on a career change and enrolled at the Center for Neurosomatic Studies. There, Melinda studied under the direction of Neurosomatic Therapy founders Paul St. John and Randy Clark. While enrolled there, she was able to merge two of her passions (NST and research) and completed two original case studies on the applications of NST to treat chronic pain. In 2017, she received a Bronze Award from the Massage Therapy Foundation in their international student case report competition.
When Melinda is not in the clinic, she can often be found in the kitchen. She has an affinity for developing recipes for individuals with food sensitivities, and for several years authored a food blog focused on gluten-free, casein-free cooking. Creating GFCF gingerbread houses is one of her crowning achievements, and she builds a new masterpiece every year. Flamenco music and dance has been a big part of her life for over 20 years. She has performed throughout the Tampa Bay area as a flamenco singer and dancer with SOMOS, a local flamenco troupe.
